Limiting the amount of insulin a diabetic uses could result in harmful consequences. Insulin is one of the most valuable things a diabetic can have to treat their medical condition. The insulin helps maintain healthy blood sugar levels. One of the main reasons a diabetic does not use the proper amount of insulin is because they cannot afford it. As stated before, over 44 percent of the people in Illinois, who responded to a survey, struggled to afford insulin in 2019-2020 (Report to the General Assembly on Insulin Pricing 6). There are many ways for diabetics to work around their financial problems. One effective way to save money on insulin is to get a “savings card” for the type of preferred insulin. The “savings card” allows the individual to save, in most cases, more than half of the original price. For example, NovoLog has an instant savings card that provides to get a two-month supply of insulin for $25 (Novo Care). Finding alternative ways to save money is the best solution for a diabetic.

Another way to save money on insulin is to shop around and price compare to select the best choice. There could be insulin out of the state or even country and that could possibly be cheaper than purchasing insulin that is convenient. A diabetic needs to make the best choice for them, financially and physically.
